Enjoy the journey

I think we try too much to make sense out of this thing called life. The gurus tell us we need to have goals, but have you ever noticed that when you have a good dream, awake or asleep, it just goes on and on with no end, until you wake up or stop yourself of course? One is born and sooner or later you will die. So can we say that is the goal of life, maybe, but thinking of it like that is bound to put you in the ground quicker than a punch from Mike Tyson. So here is what I think we can try. How about we have goals like they always tell us, but this time let us make the process to achieving those goals a bit more exciting than usual. Think about it, most people that have a 9 to 5 jobs spend about 29 days thinking about payday which is just 1 day in a month and that means you will, on average, be happy 12 times a year. 12 times out of 365 days, now that is not right. I'm no psychologist, but that is bound to cause some mental and emotional problems. So to try and avoid such problems, how about we approach life the same way you would approach organising a party at your house. Think about it, how many people really dread organising organising a party with friends? So you might ask, how do I take this and apply it to my life Mr Writer? Start by thinking about the things that you really want in life and I do mean really want because most people say more money. Sure money will buy you that nice car, big house, dream vacation, etc, but what I want you to think about here is what will those things that money buys bring you? After you decide on what you really want then decide how you intend to get this thing or things that you want. This is the point where you decide on which steps to take to achieve this goal and on top of this you also decide on which of these steps will be the most enjoyable because I'm sure that if your aim was to go see the pyramids of Egypt, walking there from your current position wouldn't be much fun, would it? Before you start this little exercise please bear in mind that you will meet up with some resistance from friends, family and even strangers because they might not understand what is in you and this is not meant to scare you, but to prepare you much like you would take an umbrella when the weather lady says it might rain. I don't know if you noticed that this post has a lot of question marks and that is because only you can answer the questions. So from now on please try and make the process as enjoyable as possible. Who knows, that might even speed up up the goal achieving problems. They say time flys when you're having fun.

They dont have to practice what they preach!

They say practice what you preach. I bet you are saying "yeah, thats right, I'm tired of these Christians telling me to do this and they end up doing that". Sure they do mess up in a spectacular fashion, but that is not why I'm bringing this phrase to your attention. I am bringing it to your attention because I suddenly think the phrase is meant to make you not to listen to reason. Why do I say such, well its because of something I read which said most of what you heard and read from those that came before you might be wrong and if it is important to you just research it to make sure. For example: the lion is the king of the jungle, but the lion doesnt live in a jungle or the earliest bird catches the fatest worm, but Apple inc only started selling their iPhone in 2007 when companies like Motorola had a head start, but they are far behind now , Justin Bieber won the American Music Awards' most important category in his early teens. So what I'm saying here is that the one who is trying to sell a better life to you or giving you advice doesnt have to have lived that life or have done the thing that they are advocating. The only thing that you need to decide is whether it is something that you would like for yourself or not. Just in case you are still wondering if this is hogwash or not, think of it like this: in sports, the best teams and athletes have managers or coaches that would otherwise be unknown were it not for these athletes and most of the managers have never reached the top of the fields that their in, but they help others achieve greatness. So the best you can do for yourself is think of yourself as a ghetto Usain Bolt who can run fast, but doesn't know which shoes to wear to make sure he doesn't wake up with blisters on his feet. How will you celebrate the victory the next day if you can't stand up?

A lil faith in yourself

Would have loved not to say anything about this, but here goes: Christianity has brought a lot of opportunities to people who would otherwise be considered inferior. Culture says respect the king for he knows better, Christianity says respect God for he brought you a brother and sister who will take care of you when in need, sure they sometimes dont, only because their father gave them choice. It amuses me to here people say "God has taken him/her back" when someone dies. Personally I think we die at a young age for one of two reasons, because we have not lived up to what God wanted us to do or we have served our purpose. Everyday we wake up with dreams, but we dont persue them because of fear and our fears exist because we refuse to believe that which created our dreams (God). Ask anyone who has achieved anything worth while, they had to ignore their fears no matter who they are. As kids we dreamt of being great, but we met up with resistance, not from the people who told us it wasn't possible, but from that nagging feeling that said "look around you, can something great come out from this?" and you said maybe not. Sure you were right, because your Father gave you the ability to create that which you believe. Believe and act is that all you are being asked. Is that too much to ask of you? I could go on forever about this, but what do I know!

Nokia N8

It's official - Nokia unveiled their new flagship, the Nokia N8. With 12MP camera and 720p video recording, the latest handset from the Finnish company is on track to becoming the new imaging champ in the mobile phone world.

The 28mm wide angle camera on the Nokia N8 is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics and a xenon flash. Nokia says that the image sensor "rivals those found in compact digital cameras". The camera can also capture 720p HD video at 25 frames per second and offers built-in video editing tools. The Nokia N8 also features two different TV-out interfaces - the standard 3.5mm audio jack and a mini-HDMI port (a first for the GSM world). The Nokia N8 also features Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound over the HDMI link.

The Nokia N8 offers up to 3 hours and 20 minutes of video capture or 7 hours of video playback (6 over HDMI) thanks to the 1200mAh battery. The talk time is impressive too - 12 hours, and the battery will last for 50 hours of music playback. There's plenty of storage to store the videos - the Nokia N8 has 16GB of built-in memory and supports microSD cards up to 32GB. As for viewing things on the phones itself, the N8 comes with a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen with 16:9 aspect ratio with nHD resolution (360 x 640 pixels).

The Nokia N8 is connectivity champ - it is a true globetrotter with quad-band GSM/EDGE and five-band 3G. Yep, five bands - 850/900/1700/1900/2100. It has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS (plus other positioning methods), microUSB with USB On-the-go and a built-in FM transmitter. Having mentioned GPS, the N8 will of course come with Ovi Maps for free voice-guided navigation. The N8 is the first device that runs Symbian^3 and it also has support for the Qt cross-platform apps and UI framework that should allow development of apps that run on Symbian and MeeGo. It has multiple homescreens and is proficient in social networking. It also offers improved application and graphics performance. Via GSMarena

Apple iPhone 4

You can't make a phone that everyone loves and Apple is not even trying. Much like any other iPhone so far, the iPhone 4 is a phone that everybody loves AND hates.

Apple’s latest is always the greatest – you have to give them that. Sometimes it seems they put less effort into making it than in letting people know they did. But with the Apple iPhone 4, they were obviously hard at work. The 4th generation iPhone has an all new look, new feel and plenty of new skill. We already caught a glimpse of the iOS4. But there’s much more: a 1GHz chip, two cameras, HD video and of course the Retina display – the highest-res screen we’ve seen so far on a GSM phone. Surely there are still enough blank spots on the feature list but that’s Apple and its iPhone. Compromises are being made in every phone out there anyway. But the simple fact is Number 4 is the best iPhone to-date. Let's see how good that is.

Key features
Quad-band GSM and quad-band 3G support with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
3.5" 16M-color LED-backlit TFT capacitive touchscreen of 640 x 960 px resolution
Scratch-resistant glass front and rear, with fingerprint-resistant coating
1GHz Apple A4 SoC; 512MB of RAM
5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and touch focus
720p video recording at 30fps
Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
GPS with A-GPS connectivity; digital compass
16/32GB storage options
Accelerometer, proximity sensor and three-axis gyro sensor
Active noise cancellation with a dedicated secondary microphone
Standard 3.5 mm audio jack, stereo Bluetooth v2.1
Excellent audio output quality
Slim waistline at only 9.3mm
Secondary front-facing camera
Some degree of multitasking
Rich AppStore
Main disadvantages
Hardware design is prone to reception issues
MicroSIM card support only
No Flash support in the web browser
No true multitasking for all applications
FaceTime video calls work only over Wi-Fi
No file transfer over Bluetooth or USB Mass Storage mode
No hardware shutter key for the camera
No FM radio
No stereo speakers
No microSD card slot
No smart dialing
Too dependent on iTunes for loading multimedia content
Poor loudspeaker performance
As you can see, most of the main disadvantages are simply passed from one generation to the next but - whatever iPhone you’re coming from - the Number 4 will tick most of your boxes. via GSMarena

Nokia n900

Ok I'll confess I am Nokia fan, so this might be biased. The internet tablet genes are strong in the Nokia N900 so connectivity and web-browsing are its greatest virtues. The large high-res display and great typing skills are the right kind of backup but we've seen plenty of similar packages already. We told you though - the N900 is different. It's a Maemo-powered phone with Mozilla browsing and all-you-can-eat connectivity. Call it good news, call it a good start or just call it good. Let's see if it calls back. One thing to definitely note about the Nokia N900 is the WVGA screen, which is not too frequent to see in other smartphones - platform limitations are hard to get around. There is of course the Vodafone 360 H1produced by Samsung and running LiMo, which even adds 16M-colors support, but it's very much a niche device. Now add the QWERTY keyboard, which turned out pretty comfortable despite the three-row layout, and things are starting to get there.

So, it's time we checked what the Nokia N900 can do for you and where it can possibly fail. A new OS (new to phones anyway) should be able to at least come close to the current crop of smartphone platforms and show a high enough development potential. For what we saw in our preview, the Maemo and the N900 may as well be even more ambitious. But if you take nothing for granted you've come to the right place. via gsmarena.com

Which if are you hiding behind?

IF I didn't have a wife and family
IF I had enough "pull"
IF I had money
IF I had a good education
IF I could get a job
IF I had good health
IF I only had time
IF times were better
IF other people understood me
IF conditions around me were
only different
IF I could live my life over again
IF I did not fear what "THEY"
would say
IF I had been given a chance
IF I now had a chance
IF other people didn't "have it in
for me"
IF nothing happens to stop me
IF I were only younger
IF I could only do what I want
IF I had been born rich
IF I could meet "the right people"
IF I had the talent that some
people have
IF I dared assert myself
IF I only had embraced past
opportunities
IF people didn't get on my nerves
IF I didn't have to keep house and
look after the children
IF I could save some money
IF the boss only appreciated me
IF I only had somebody to help me
IF my family understood me
IF I lived in a big city
IF I could just get started
IF I were only free
IF I had the personality of some
people
IF I were not so fat
IF my talents were known
IF I could just get a "break"
IF I could only get out of debt
IF I hadn't failed
IF I only knew how
IF everybody didn't oppose me
IF I didn't have so many worries
IF I could marry the right person
IF people weren't so dumb
IF my family were not so
extravagant
IF I were sure of myself
IF luck were not against me
IF I had not been born under the
wrong star
IF it were not true that "what is to
be will be"
IF I did not have to work so hard
IF I hadn't lost my money
IF I lived in a different
neighborhood
IF I didn't have a "past"
IF I only had a business of my own
IF other people would only listen
to me
IF and this is the greatest of them
all I had the courage to see myself
as I really am, I would find out
what is wrong with me, and
correct it, then I might have a
chance to profit by my mistakes
and learn something from the
experience of others, for I know
that there is something WRONG
with me, or I would now be where I WOULD HAVE BEEN IF I had spent more time analyzing my weaknesses, and less time
building alibis to cover them.
Building alibis with which to explain away failure is a national pastime. The habit is as old as the human race, and is fatal to success! Why do people cling to their pet alibis? The answer is obvious. They defend their alibis because THEY CREATE them! A man's alibi is the child of his own imagination. It is human nature to defend one's own brain-child. Happy hour for the sober - k dlamini

Most of us have entitlement syndrome. Just because we show up at work we expect to be paid lots of money and given tonnes of respect, but true life doesn't work like that. We even do that with our personal relationships. Imagine walking into your favourite bar and after giving the barman your hard earned cash he says enjoy. Wouldn't that just be sweet? Not even kids can get away with just being born, they have to smile and chew on dirty shoes and clothes to maintain their cuteness. So what makes a dinosaur like you think they can just show up and that will be enough? So while you a having your lunch or pretending to be on a diet, ask yourself whether you are doing enough to get yourself where you want to be. Don't be afraid to ask the hard questions for of the truth and finding out you might have been wasting yours and everyones time. Remember that fear is our biggest obstacle and trust is your best weapon. We all have trust, otherwise you wouldn't eat at a restaurant because of the fear being poisoned. So if you can trust a stranger with your life/health, why not trust yourself with your abilities? So let yourself go and "run Forest run."

Homework for winners not whiners - k dlamini

Night time again. As you put those tired bones down, does your mind say "that was good exercise" or does it wish it was doing something else? It doesn't matter what your job is, what matters is whether you are giving it your best. That is where you will find the most fulfilment, through knowing that you gave it your all. I read this somewhere: If "someday" was only "now", would you do everything you've always put off? Most of us put off our best for when we get a better job, promotion or start our own business, but the problem there is that people can't see your potential, but what you're doing now and judge you based on that. Anyway, how will you know that you can do something well without pushing yourself? Take a couple of minutes every night before you snore to grade yourself and see if you're growing or just coasting along. Okay, enough yada yada. Goodnight friend.

The economics of being me - k dlamini

It's day break again and I'm faced with the same decision I've had to deal with for almost two years now, "do I spend my day feeling sorry for myself and in self pity or do I spend it with as much positivity that as possible?" Now this is no ordinary decision because it is not based on how I feel, but on which one alternative will benefit the most people? At this point you would ask why am I concerned with other people when I am the one sitting in front of the fan that the 'ish just hit?' Well it is called opportunity cost and that simply is the value of the next-best choice available to
someone who has picked between several things that cannot occur at the same time. So I try to choose the one that will cost the less and that is having positive thoughts, smiling, cracking a few jokes and whatever stuff that normal human beings do when they are happy. Trust me it is never easy because the voices in my head always remind me that I have every right to moan, complain and be bitter 24/7 and they are right, but this is not about right or wrong. Think about it: I have had pains in my body 24/7 since june 2008 and still counting and have spent 95% of those days indoors between the bedroom and lounge. So everyday I soldier on with a big smile on my face, a beating heart which I personaly think should give up the ghost and a dead soul because thats the best thing to do and for some reason my right eye has noticed the scam, so it has started to water without any encouragement from me. I refuse to cry and no, this has nothing to do with being macho. Machoness is for sheep, real man do what they want, hoorah! Don't get me wrong I do cry sometimes, but it lasts for less than half a minute, because to cry longer than that requires one to replay the sad movie of life over and over again and I'm no broken record. Anyway I have to cut this short before the voices come back. Have a nice day friend, make it profitable and mainly fun. Dont forget to write.
